Training required for an employee that works in an Assisted Living Program

  1. The health and psychosocial needs of the population being served.
  2. The resident assessment processes.
  3. Use of service plans.
  4. Cuing, coaching, and monitoring residents who self-administer medication with or without assistance; providing assistance with ambulation, personal hygiene, dressing, toileting and feeding, and Resident rights.

Receive initial and annual training in:

  1. Fire and life safety.
  2. Infection control, including standard precautions.
  3. Emergency disaster plans and Basic food safety.

Receive initial certification and recertification, when required for:

  1. Basic first aid by a certified first aid instructor; and Basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by a certified CPR instructor.

Additional Training Requirements

In addition to the requirements in Regulation 15 of COMAR by January 1, 2006, an assisted living manager of a program that is licensed for five or more beds shall complete manager training courses that are approved by the Department.
